A regular theme amongst the unwanted photographs and colour slides available from online auction sites, charity shops and flea markets is holiday photographs. The availability of affordable cameras from the 1930s onwards meant that holiday activities and experiences could be recorded for posterity. Like snapshots in the garden, holiday photographs tend to be variations on a theme that recur across decades. People at leisure doing what people on holiday do. Spectacular, different but also mundane – the same people but in different places.
